83 miles from Llyn Teifi to Cardigan Bay

Teifi Valley Trail · launched 25 April 2026

The Teifi Valley Trail is open: source at Llyn Teifi in the Cambrians, sea at the estuary below Cardigan. About 83 miles. Decades of on-and-off work, revived after the old Dyfed council split and the idea went cold.

Kay Davis and the Teifi Valley Trail Association pushed it back to life with walkers in three counties. The path is a bet that the valley still has a job — after industry faded and Lampeter’s undergraduate teaching was wound down.

The route runs the river through Tregaron, Llanybydder, Newcastle Emlyn and Cardigan, then past St Dogmaels Abbey and down to Poppit Sands. Overnight stops already being used include Y Talbot in Tregaron, the Emlyn Hotel and Cardigan Castle.

Fingerposts are new. The river is old. Walk it before the next wet winter eats the first stiles.
